What is Unitel Voice?

Unitel Voice is a virtual phone system for small businesses in the United States. You get a toll-free or local business number, an auto attendant that greets callers (“Press 1 for sales”), extensions and call routing, and voicemail with transcription. Calls can ring any phone you already own, the Unitel Voice mobile app or, on the top plan, a desktop softphone or VoIP desk phone. The company is Unitel Voice, LLC, and it markets the service as “The Business Builder’s Phone System”.

The problem it solves is simple: a sole trader or a small office wants to look established on the phone, without handing out a personal mobile number or buying a phone system. Unitel Voice does that with three flat-priced plans. Unlike most cloud phone systems, which charge per user, SOLO and TEAM are priced per account, and every plan includes unlimited calling minutes.

What it does not try to be is a sales or contact-centre platform. There is no power dialer, no AI call notes and little mention of CRM integrations. It is a classic virtual phone system, done cheaply.

Who it is for

  • Solo owners and freelancers who want a separate business line on their phone for under $10 a month.
  • Small US offices where several people share the phones and per-user pricing would add up. TEAM’s flat price includes unlimited users.
  • Service businesses such as trades, clinics, agencies and law offices that mainly need callers routed to the right person and a professional greeting.
  • Businesses advertising a number that want a toll-free or memorable vanity number.
  • Offices that still like desk phones, on the OFFICE plan.

Who should not use it: teams that want AI call transcripts and summaries, sales teams that need a dialer and CRM call logging, businesses that need numbers outside the US, and anyone who needs call recording priced up front, since it is an add-on without a published price.

Key features

  • Toll-free, local and vanity numbers. Pick a toll-free number for a nationwide presence, a local number in almost any US area code, or a custom vanity number that spells a word. Most numbers activate immediately; vanity numbers can take 1-3 business days. Porting an existing number is supported.
  • Auto attendant and custom greetings. A main menu that sends callers to the right extension or department, with custom greetings for the menu, extensions, voicemail and after-hours calls.
  • Voice Talent Studio. Free professional recordings for your greetings, using either an AI voice or a human voice actor. This is the only AI feature Unitel Voice mentions.
  • Extensions, ring groups and call scheduling. Employee and department extensions, ring groups that ring several phones at once or in order, and routing that changes by business hours, day of the week or holidays.
  • Forwarding to any phone. Every plan can forward calls to any telephone number, extension, voicemail or the mobile app, to several phones at once, or to different numbers at different times.
  • Voicemail with transcription. Business voicemail with transcriptions so you can read messages. TEAM and OFFICE get unlimited voicemail boxes.
  • Unlimited calling and texting. No per-minute charges, and unlimited business texting after carrier registration.
  • Everyday call controls. Caller ID, call history, 3-way calling, on-hold music, do not disturb and call blocking on every plan; live call transfer on TEAM and OFFICE.
  • OFFICE extras. Desktop softphone, VoIP desk phones (bring your own compatible phones or buy preconfigured ones from Unitel Voice at cost), a presence indicator and team messaging.

Pricing

Unitel Voice prices SOLO and TEAM per account, not per user. Annual billing is paid up front and saves about 30%. Prices are at the time of writing.

PlanMonthlyAnnualUsersWhat it adds
SOLO$9.99$84/year (about $7/month)11 toll-free or local number, unlimited calling and texting, auto attendant, voicemail with transcription, mobile app
TEAM$19.99$168/year (about $14/month)UnlimitedLive call transfer, unlimited voicemail boxes, extensions and ring groups
OFFICE$29.99$252/year (about $21/month)3 included, then $9.99/user/monthDesktop softphones, VoIP desk phones, presence indicator, team messaging

What sits on top of the plan price:

  • Texting registration. Before you can text, carriers require registration with The Campaign Registry (TCR): $19.50 once plus a $1.50 monthly compliance fee. Unitel Voice handles the paperwork, but the fees come from TCR and the carriers. You only pay them when you switch texting on, and approval can take up to 10 business days.
  • Add-ons without published prices. Additional phone numbers, call recording, conference calling, direct dial numbers, 911 emergency calling for compatible VoIP devices and CNAM (your business name on outgoing caller ID) are listed as optional add-ons. Prices are not published on the plan page, so ask before you buy.
  • Add-ons on annual plans are billed monthly unless you ask support to prepay them for the rest of the term.
  • Refund. A 30-day money-back guarantee: full refund within 30 days, no questions asked. There is no free plan.

Two points on the plan page are inconsistent at the time of writing. The TEAM card says “Unlimited Users”, while the add-on table also shows extra users at $9.99 a month as available on TEAM. And the plan cards list extensions and ring groups as TEAM features, while the comparison table ticks them for SOLO too. Confirm both with sales if they decide your choice.

How to use Unitel Voice: step-by-step

1. Pick a plan

Choose SOLO if you are alone, TEAM if several people share the phones and you do not need desk phones, and OFFICE if you want softphones, desk phones or team messaging. Plans can be changed at any time. Annual billing is cheaper, and the 30-day guarantee still lets you back out if the service does not suit you.

2. Choose or port your main number

  1. In the sign-up flow (Pick a Plan, then Pick a Number, then Checkout), choose your main toll-free or local number, or a vanity number.
  2. If you already have a business number that customers know, choose the option to transfer it during sign-up instead.
  3. Additional numbers are added later from your account, as add-ons.

3. Build the auto attendant

Plan the menu first

Write down who should get which calls before you touch the settings. A small business rarely needs more than three options, for example: 1 for sales, 2 for support, 3 for billing, and 0 to reach a person.

Record the greetings

Use Voice Talent Studio to get professional recordings of your main greeting, menu prompts and voicemail greeting, with either an AI voice or a human voice actor. Recordings are free on every plan. Ask for a separate after-hours greeting at the same time.

Set the routing and schedule

In the online dashboard, create extensions for each person and department, link each menu option to an extension or ring group, and set call scheduling so calls go to the after-hours greeting or voicemail outside business hours and on holidays.

4. Decide where calls ring

For each person, choose where their calls should go: their existing mobile, the Unitel Voice mobile app, several phones at once, or different phones at different times. The app lets people call and text from the business number while keeping their personal number private. On OFFICE, install the desktop softphone or have support configure your IP desk phones.

5. Set up voicemail

Turn on voicemail and transcription for each extension so messages arrive as text you can scan. On TEAM and OFFICE, give every employee and department its own voicemail box.

6. Register for texting

When you are ready to text customers, ask Unitel Voice to start the carrier registration; it handles the process for you, reviews your details before submitting them, which reduces rejections. Budget $19.50 plus $1.50 a month, and allow up to 10 business days before texting goes live.

7. Test before you publish the number

Call the number from a personal phone during and outside business hours, try every menu option, leave a voicemail and check the transcription, and send a test text once registration is approved. Then update your website, Google Business Profile and email signature.

Tips to get better results

  • Choose TEAM over several SOLO plans. Two SOLO accounts already cost about the same as one TEAM account, and TEAM keeps everyone on one number with transfers, extensions and their own voicemail boxes.
  • Pay annually once you are sure. The annual price saves $36 on SOLO, $72 on TEAM and $108 on OFFICE compared with paying monthly for a year.
  • Keep the menu short. Callers hang up on long menus. Put the most common reason first and always offer a way to reach a person.
  • Use call scheduling for holidays. Set holiday routing in advance so callers hear an accurate message instead of ringing out.
  • Ask for add-on prices in writing. Call recording and conference calling are not priced on the plan page; get a quote before you rely on them.
  • Add CNAM if you make outbound calls. Showing your business name on caller ID can make people more willing to pick up. It is an add-on.
  • Use support. Live US-based support by phone or chat is included on every plan and can help with porting, greetings and desk phones.

Limitations and common problems

  • No AI call features. No call transcripts, summaries or AI receptionist. Workaround: if you need AI notes, choose a system that has them; see the alternatives below.
  • Recording is an extra. Call recording and conference calling are add-ons with unpublished prices. Workaround: ask support for the price before you sign the annual plan.
  • US focus. The plan page covers US toll-free and local numbers only; international numbers and calling are not described. Businesses with overseas customers should look elsewhere.
  • Few business-software links. The plan page does not mention CRM integrations, an API or call analytics. Teams that want calls logged in a CRM need a different tool.
  • 911 is not automatic. Emergency calling is listed as an add-on for compatible VoIP devices. If anyone will use a desk phone or softphone as their main phone, set it up.
  • Unlimited has not been defined in detail. We did not find fair-use terms on the plan page. Very high-volume callers should read the terms and conditions first.

Verdict

Sign up for Unitel Voice if you are a solo owner or a small US office that wants a professional number, a proper auto attendant, unlimited minutes and a predictable flat bill, and you value live human support over software features. SOLO is the cheapest serious business line we have covered, and TEAM’s flat price makes it good value for offices with several people answering calls. Skip it if you need AI call notes, CRM logging, international numbers or clear prices for call recording.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Unitel Voice cost?

At the time of writing SOLO costs $9.99 a month or $84 a year for 1 user, TEAM costs $19.99 a month or $168 a year with unlimited users, and OFFICE costs $29.99 a month or $252 a year for 3 users plus $9.99 a month for each extra user. Texting carrier fees and add-ons are extra.

Does Unitel Voice have a free trial?

It has a 30-day risk-free trial, which is a money-back guarantee rather than a free trial: you pay when you sign up and can cancel within 30 days for a full refund, no questions asked.

Is texting really unlimited on Unitel Voice?

Unlimited business texting is included on every plan, but US carriers require registration with The Campaign Registry first. That costs $19.50 once plus $1.50 a month, charged by the registry and carriers, not by Unitel Voice, and approval can take up to 10 business days.

Does Unitel Voice have AI features?

Only for greetings. Voice Talent Studio lets you record phone greetings with an AI voice or a human voice actor. Voicemail transcription is included, but the plan page does not mention AI call transcripts, call summaries or an AI receptionist.

Can I keep my current business number?

Yes. Number porting is listed on every plan, and you can choose to transfer an existing number during sign-up instead of picking a new one.

What is the difference between TEAM and OFFICE?

TEAM adds live call transfer and unlimited voicemail boxes to SOLO. OFFICE adds desktop softphones, VoIP desk phones, a presence indicator and team messaging, and includes 3 users with extra users at $9.99 a month each.
