What is CallHippo?

CallHippo is a cloud VoIP phone system for sales and support teams. You buy virtual phone numbers, assign them to users, and make and take calls from desktop and mobile apps, with IVR menus, routing, dialers, call recording and analytics on top. It also handles SMS, WhatsApp through the WhatsApp Business API, and an omnichannel inbox, so a team can work phone and messaging from the same account.

The provider’s terms give a registered address in Ahmedabad, India, and the privacy policy says data is held on servers in the United States and India. CallHippo sells AI as add-ons and higher-plan features: call transcription, Call Summary, AI voicemail transcription, the AI Copilot for call insights, and an AI Voice Agent that can take calls.

The product is split into two lines. The Business Phone System (the “Essential” line on the pricing page) is for normal office calling at low volumes. The Pro Suite is for call centres that dial at high volume. Picking the right line matters, because the fair usage rules differ between them.

Who it is for

  • US and Canadian SMBs that want unlimited domestic calling bundled into the seat price.
  • Outbound sales teams that need a power dialer, parallel dialer and auto voicemail drop on a call-centre plan.
  • Support teams that route callers with IVR, Smart DID Routing and Sticky Agent (which sends a returning caller back to the same agent).
  • Teams that sell over messaging and want SMS and WhatsApp next to calls.
  • Managers who want call monitoring, whisper and barge, leaderboards and call analytics.

Who should not use it: teams that need a firm written commitment on how AI processes their recordings (the privacy policy is silent on AI), and very small teams that only need one shared number and texting, where Quo is simpler.

Key features

  • Virtual numbers and porting. Numbers in many countries (vendor pages mostly say 150+, though some older pages give a lower figure) and number porting from your current carrier. Pricing changes with the number region you pick.
  • IVR and routing. IVR and multilingual IVR on Professional, multilevel IVR, Smart DID Routing and CRM-based VIP routing on Ultimate, plus call queues and Sticky Agent.
  • Dialers. Power Dialer, Parallel Dialer and auto voicemail drop for outbound teams. The changelog recently added an Attempt Manager with a common list for auto dialers.
  • Call recording and monitoring. Recording from Professional on the office line; on Pro Suite, Bronze charges $0.005 per minute for recording and Silver includes it free, together with live call monitoring, dispositions and a leaderboard.
  • AI call transcription and Call Summary. Transcripts appear right after a call ends and are searchable in the dashboard. Call Summary pulls out key points, action items and outcomes. AI voicemail transcription turns voicemails into text.
  • AI Copilot. A paid add-on with transcription, summaries, sentiment flags, intent alerts, key topics and AI call scoring. Copilot call insights can be opened directly from the call logs.
  • AI Voice Agent and AI agents. An AI Voice Agent that answers calls, plus Outcome-Based Voice Agents billed per demo booked, an AI Sales Agent and an AI Chat Agent.
  • Messaging and integrations. SMS/MMS, the WhatsApp Business API, an Omnichannel Inbox, and a marketplace of about 124 integrations including HubSpot, Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, Zoho, Pipedrive, monday.com, ActiveCampaign, Zendesk, Freshdesk, Intercom, Gorgias, Zapier, Make, webhooks and a public “Make a Call” API.

Pricing

CallHippo’s pricing page changes prices by currency (USD, AUD, CAD, EUR, GBP, INR), billing period and phone number region. The figures below are in US dollars for the US/Canada region, at the time of writing, as loaded by the pricing page on 17 October 2026. Yearly billing is labelled “Save 3 Months’ Cost”. How to use CallHippo: step-by-step

  1. Start the trial. Sign up at callhippo.com for the 10-day free trial; no credit card is needed.
  2. Choose your number region first. The region (US/CA, UK, Global and others) sets both your prices and your included minutes, so pick the one that matches where your customers are.
  3. Buy or port a number. Pick a local number or start a port from your current carrier.
  4. Add your team. Invite users, assign numbers to them, set permissions, and install the desktop and mobile apps.
  5. Connect your CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive and Zoho need Professional or higher) so calls are logged against contacts.

Workflow 1: set up an IVR for inbound calls

  1. Decide the menu: for example, 1 for sales, 2 for support, 3 for billing.
  2. Create a team or queue for each option and add the right agents.
  3. Build the IVR, upload or type the greeting, and map each key to a team. Use multilingual IVR on Professional if you serve callers in several languages.
  4. Turn on Sticky Agent if repeat callers should reach the same agent.
  5. Call the number from another phone and test every branch, including the out-of-hours message.

Workflow 2: run outbound calls with a dialer

  1. Make sure you are on a call-centre plan (Pro Suite) or Enterprise; auto dialing is not allowed on the office plans.
  2. Upload a contact list or pull one from your CRM.
  3. Choose the Power Dialer for one-by-one calling or the Parallel Dialer for higher volumes, and record a voicemail for auto voicemail drop.
  4. Set dispositions so each outcome is logged, then review the leaderboard and call analytics after each session.

Workflow 3: turn on transcription and AI summaries

  1. Check your plan: transcription needs Professional or Pro Suite Bronze and up; Call Summary needs Ultimate or Silver and up.
  2. Turn on auto transcription from the settings panel and choose the language, storage rules and summary format.
  3. After a call, open it from the call logs to read the transcript and summary, and search across calls for any word or phrase.
  4. Add AI Copilot if you want sentiment flags, intent alerts and call scoring.

Tips to get better results

  • Compare yearly and monthly before committing. Yearly billing cuts Professional from $40 to $30 per user, but test the product on monthly first.
  • Choose the plan line by how you dial. If agents make high-volume outbound calls, start on Pro Suite; office plans cap parallel calls and forbid auto dialing.
  • Watch the repeat-call cap. The Fair Usage Policy limits you to 10 calls per hour to the same number.
  • Protect your caller ID. If outbound answer rates drop, look at Spam Watch, Branded Calling or CNAM for US numbers.
  • Register for US texting early. US A2P messaging approval takes about 2-4 weeks, so start it on day one if you plan to send SMS.
  • Use Dashboard User seats for managers who only need reports; they cost $15 per user per month instead of a full calling seat.
  • Re-check prices before quoting. The pricing page shows different figures by region and currency, and older static text on the page shows outdated numbers.

Limitations and common problems

  • “Free” is temporary. Basic is free only for the first six months, and numbers are billed throughout.
  • Unlimited has conditions. Unlimited minutes cover domestic US/Canada calls on the US/CA region, exclude premium and toll-free numbers and a published exemption list, and are subject to fair use.
  • AI is spread across plans and add-ons. Transcription, Call Summary and AI Copilot each sit at a different tier, so check what you are buying.
  • Confusing pricing. Price depends on currency, billing period and number region; the Enterprise minimum appears as both 20 and 50 users.
  • AI data policy is unclear. The privacy policy (last updated March 2024) does not say whether recordings or transcripts are used to train AI, and sub-processors are not named. Ask for the DPA if this matters to you. CallHippo claims SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and HIPAA compliance on its security page.

Alternatives

  • CloudTalk - euro-priced call-centre software with numbers in 160+ countries, a Parallel Dialer and a clear policy that AI data stays in the EU and is not used for training.
  • KrispCall - cloud phone system with numbers in 100+ countries, SMS, a power dialer and AI call summaries.
  • Quo - simpler shared numbers and team texting for small US and Canadian teams.
  • WhatsApp-first support - if messaging matters more than calls, look at Wati.

Verdict

Sign up for CallHippo if your team calls mostly within the US and Canada, wants unlimited domestic minutes in the seat price, and needs IVR, CRM logging and transcripts without paying call-centre prices. Professional at $30 per user per month (yearly) is the sensible starting plan, and Pro Suite is the right line for dialer-heavy sales teams.

Look elsewhere if you need a clear written stance on AI training and data location, or if most of your calling is outside North America; CloudTalk is stronger on both.
