What is ZoomInfo?

ZoomInfo is a business-to-business data platform: a large database of companies and the people who work at them, with tools to search it, export it, and act on it. ZoomInfo Technologies, a publicly listed company, sells it in three families of packages: Sales, Marketing and Talent. At the time of writing ZoomInfo says it holds more than 500 million contacts and 100 million companies, processes over 1.5 billion data points a day and employs more than 300 human researchers who check records. Those are vendor figures, not independent audits.

The problem it solves is knowing who to sell to and how to reach them. A rep can filter for, say, heads of IT at manufacturing companies with 500 to 2,000 employees in Germany, see their business email and direct or mobile number, and push the list into Salesforce or a sequencer. On top of the contact data sit buying signals: buyer intent topics (which companies are researching a subject), website visitor identification, funding news and technology installs.

ZoomInfo now sells a set of AI products on top of the data. ZoomInfo Copilot is its AI sales agent, which ranks accounts and writes briefs. GTM Studio lets teams build workflows triggered by buying signals, and in October 2026 it gained Agent Teams, coordinated AI agents that run whole go-to-market plays, at no extra SKU according to ZoomInfo’s announcement. GTM.AI gives developers and AI assistants access to the data through an API, an open-source CLI and the ZoomInfo MCP server, which works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Microsoft Copilot Studio and Gemini Enterprise.

Who it is for

  • Enterprise and mid-market sales teams with dedicated SDRs and account executives who prospect into defined territories and need direct dials, org charts and account hierarchies.
  • Marketing and ABM teams that run intent-based campaigns, identify website visitors with WebSights, enrich forms with FormComplete and buy display ads through the ZoomInfo Display Network.
  • RevOps and data teams that want to keep CRM records complete and routed by territory, and that will use the API or integrations rather than manual exports.
  • Recruiters, through the separate Talent product (not covered in detail here).

ZoomInfo is not a good fit for solo founders, freelancers or small teams who want to sign up with a card, pay monthly and stop when they like. There is no public price, contracts are usually annual, and the entry plan does not include the intent and AI features that justify the cost. Those buyers should look at Apollo.io or RocketReach first.

Key features

  • Contact and company profiles. Search and export business emails, mobile numbers, job titles, locations and company firmographics, with prospect lists, saved searches, alerts and territory filters. Available from the Professional plan.
  • Chrome extension and mobile app. The ReachOut Chrome extension shows ZoomInfo data while you browse company sites, LinkedIn or your CRM, and exports cost the same credit as in the main platform.
  • Buyer intent. Shows which companies are researching topics you pick. Sales customers get it from Copilot Advanced; real-time intent and custom intent are in Copilot Enterprise. Marketing plans include 25 topics (Marketing Demand), 100 (ABM Lite) or unlimited (ABM Enterprise).
  • ZoomInfo Copilot. The AI layer in the Copilot tiers: account prioritisation, Account Fit Score, deal alerts, deal briefs, account health, AI talking points and AI buying groups. Copilot Enterprise adds AI account summaries, AI ICP creation and Copilot chat.
  • GTM Studio and Agent Teams. Build workflows that start from a buying signal, enrich and segment the matching records, then trigger an action. Agent Teams lets several AI agents work through a play together.
  • WebSights and FormComplete. Marketing tools in the marketing plans: WebSights identifies companies visiting your website, and FormComplete enriches web form submissions with ZoomInfo data. The plans also include AirCover and, on the ABM tiers, the ZoomInfo Display Network for ads.
  • Enrichment and integrations. CRM integrations (Salesforce is named on the plans), exports to Outreach and Salesloft, Slack and Teams alerts, Waterfall Enrichment (launched February 2026), and native connectors for Zapier, n8n, ClickUp, Replit and Superhuman Go.
  • GTM.AI and ZoomInfo MCP. API, CLI and MCP access for developers and AI agents, with its own free developer tier and pay-as-you-go credits.

Pricing

ZoomInfo is quote-only. At the time of writing the pricing page shows no dollar amount for any plan; each one ends in “Get Pricing”, “Start free trial” or “Get a demo”. The FAQ says price depends on features, the number of licences and credit usage, and that add-ons and integrations change the total. ZoomInfo’s own blog (updated July 2026) says no specific dollar amounts are published and that most paid plans are billed annually upfront with a minimum number of seats; it does not say how many. We do not quote third-party price estimates here because they cannot be checked against the vendor.

Credits. Each export of a company or contact profile costs one credit, from the platform, the Chrome extension or the API. Basic credits cover firmographic and demographic data; advanced credits cover technographics, org charts and real-time alerts. Integrations usually carry a base cost plus a minimum bulk credit purchase, and Streaming Intent is an add-on priced by keyword volume and account universe. The per-seat credit allowance on sales plans is set in your contract and is not published.

Developer pricing. GTM.AI, run by ZoomInfo, does publish prices: a free tier with 1,000 data credits and 1,000 AI credits at sign-up, then pay-as-you-go data credits ($0.38 each at the $1,000 tier) and AI credits ($0.05 each) at the time of writing. This is aimed at developers building agents, not at sales seats.

How to use ZoomInfo: step-by-step

1. Get access

  1. Free route: sign up for ZoomInfo Lite with a work email address. Gmail and Yahoo addresses are not accepted. Decide whether to connect Outlook, Google or your CRM for the Community Edition credit boost; doing so lets ZoomInfo collect the business contacts in that account, so check your company’s policy first.
  2. Paid route: request a trial or quote for Professional, Copilot Advanced or Copilot Enterprise from the pricing page. Before the call, write down how many seats you need, which CRM you use, and whether you need intent data, so the quote matches your use.
  3. Install the ReachOut Chrome extension and the mobile app if your plan includes them.

2. Build your first prospect list

  1. Define your ideal customer in writing: industry, headcount band, region, technologies used, and the two or three job functions you sell to.
  2. In company search, apply the firmographic filters first (industry, employee count, revenue, location). Narrow with technology or funding filters where your plan includes them.
  3. Switch to contacts at those companies and filter by department, seniority and title. Save the search so you can re-run it and get alerts when new matches appear.
  4. Review the list before exporting. Every exported profile costs a credit, so remove duplicates, existing customers and people you already have in your CRM.
  5. Export to your CRM or, on Copilot Advanced and above, straight to Outreach or Salesloft. Use CSV only when you have no integration, because CSV copies go stale.

3. Prioritise accounts with Copilot (Copilot Advanced and Enterprise)

  1. Configure your ideal customer profile so Account Fit Score has something to compare against. On Copilot Enterprise, AI ICP creation can draft this from your won deals.
  2. Pick buyer intent topics that match real problems you solve, not your product category name. Fewer, specific topics give cleaner signals.
  3. Check Copilot’s prioritised account list each morning. Read the AI talking points and deal brief for each account, then decide who to contact; treat the AI text as research notes, not copy to send unedited.
  4. Turn on champion tracking so you are alerted when a past buyer or user moves to a new company.

4. Automate with workflows and GTM Studio

  1. Start with one signal-to-action workflow, for example: when an account in your territory shows intent on a chosen topic, enrich three contacts in the buying group and create a task in your CRM.
  2. Run it for two weeks, check the quality of the records it creates, then add more. Workflows spend credits each time they enrich or export.
  3. If your team builds its own agents, connect the ZoomInfo MCP server to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor through GTM.AI. Per ZoomInfo’s developer documentation the CLI and MCP are read-only; bulk export and CRM write-back go through the API.

Tips to get better results

  • Negotiate the credit allowance, not just the seat price. The number and type (basic or advanced) of credits decides what your team can actually export.
  • Sync, do not download. Keep ZoomInfo connected to your CRM so records update instead of going stale in spreadsheets.
  • Set a suppression rule. Exclude current customers and open opportunities from searches so reps do not spend credits re-exporting them.
  • Use intent as a filter, not a list. Intent shows a company is researching a topic; combine it with fit filters before calling anyone.
  • Verify before big sends. Even good data decays as people change jobs. Run a verification step and watch bounce rates on the first batch.
  • Start small with automation. One workflow that works beats ten that flood the CRM with half-qualified contacts.
  • Pair it with a sending tool. ZoomInfo finds people; a sequencer such as Reply.io or lemlist handles cold email deliverability and follow-ups. Our Reply.io vs lemlist comparison helps you choose.

Limitations and common problems

  • Opaque pricing. You cannot budget without a sales conversation. Workaround: get quotes from two vendors with the same seat count and credit needs, and ask for the full contract terms, including renewal increases and cancellation, in writing.
  • Annual commitment. Most paid plans are billed annually upfront. Use the free trial to test data quality in your exact market before signing.
  • Credit limits. Credits are consumed on every export and the allowance is contract-specific. Track usage by rep in the first month.
  • Feature gating. Buyer intent, workflows, website visitors and Copilot are not in Professional. If those are why you are buying, make sure the quote is for Copilot Advanced or higher.
  • Free tier restrictions. ZoomInfo Lite gives a small number of monthly credits and is closed to anyone whose company is or was a paying customer. The exact monthly credit count is not stated on the sign-up page.
  • Privacy questions. ZoomInfo’s data comes from web crawling, data partners, its own research team and a contributor network of ZoomInfo Lite users. It holds ISO 27001, ISO 27701, SOC 2 Type II and TRUSTe GDPR and CCPA certifications, but your legal team should still review how you use personal data, especially for EU contacts.

Alternatives

  • Apollo.io - public per-seat prices, a usable free plan, and sequences and a dialer built in; a smaller database and lighter intent tools. Read our Apollo.io guide.
  • RocketReach - self-serve contact finder with published monthly and annual prices, email and phone lookups and an MCP server; no intent-led ABM. See our RocketReach guide.
  • Reply.io - a multichannel sequencer with its own contact database, for teams whose main need is outreach rather than data depth. See the Reply.io guide.
  • lemlist - cold email and LinkedIn outreach with a built-in lead database and deliverability tools. See the lemlist guide.

Verdict

Sign up for ZoomInfo if you run a sales or marketing team of meaningful size, sell into defined accounts, and will use buyer intent, account prioritisation and CRM enrichment every week. In that setting the data depth and the Copilot and ABM tools justify an annual contract. Use the free trial to check coverage in your own market and negotiate the credit allowance carefully.

Do not sign up if you are a solo seller, a small team that needs month-to-month terms, or someone who mainly wants to find a few emails. ZoomInfo Lite is fine for occasional lookups, but for regular prospecting on a small budget a self-serve tool with public pricing, such as Apollo.io or RocketReach, is the better choice.

Frequently asked questions

How much does ZoomInfo cost?

ZoomInfo does not publish prices. Every plan on its pricing page leads to a quote, trial or demo, and the vendor says price depends on features, number of licences, credit usage, add-ons and integrations. ZoomInfo's own blog adds that most paid plans are billed annually upfront and include a minimum number of seats.

Is there a free version of ZoomInfo?

Yes. ZoomInfo Lite (formerly Community Edition) is a permanent free tier that needs a business email address and no credit card. Credits refresh monthly and do not roll over. You get more credits if you connect your mailbox or CRM and share business contacts with ZoomInfo. It is not open to current or past paid subscribers.

How do ZoomInfo credits work?

Each export of a company or contact profile costs one credit, whether you export from the platform, the ReachOut Chrome extension or the API. Credits are used when data leaves ZoomInfo, for example to a CSV file or your CRM. Basic credits cover firmographic and demographic data; advanced credits cover items such as technographics, org charts and real-time alerts.

What is ZoomInfo Copilot?

ZoomInfo Copilot is the AI sales agent layer sold in the Copilot Advanced and Copilot Enterprise plans. It prioritises accounts, sends deal alerts, writes deal briefs and talking points and can run natural-language automations. Copilot chat is only in Copilot Enterprise.

Does ZoomInfo have a free trial?

ZoomInfo offers a free trial on its three sales plans (Professional, Copilot Advanced and Copilot Enterprise). The trial length is not published. Marketing plans are sold through a demo, without a self-serve trial.

How do I remove my information from ZoomInfo?

Individuals can verify, update or remove their profile through ZoomInfo's privacy center, reached from the trust center at zoominfo.com/trust-center. ZoomInfo also offers a Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link and is registered as a data broker.
