What is SimpleTexting?
SimpleTexting is an SMS and MMS marketing platform for businesses texting customers in the United States and Canada. You use it to send mass text campaigns, run two-way conversations from a shared inbox, grow an opt-in list with keywords and web forms, and set up automated replies and drip sequences. It runs in the browser and has iOS and Android apps. The company is SimpleTexting, LLC, based in Chicago; its own company information page says it was founded in 2010 and names Sinch AB as its parent.
The problem it solves is simple: text messages get read, but sending them to hundreds or thousands of customers from a phone is neither practical nor legal. SimpleTexting gives you a business number, handles carrier registration, keeps opt-ins and opt-outs on record, and lets several people answer replies without sharing a handset.
There is one plan with every feature. You choose how many message credits you need each month, and that sets the price. The AI part is AI Assist, a writing helper in the campaign composer that SimpleTexting launched in April 2023 and described as built on ChatGPT.
Who it is for
- Local businesses such as salons, gyms, restaurants, clinics and trades that send offers, reminders and updates to regular customers.
- Retail and ecommerce teams building an SMS list alongside email, using keywords, pop-ups and text-to-win contests. Shopify, Mailchimp and HubSpot are among the listed integrations.
- Churches, schools and nonprofits sending announcements; tax-exempt organisations get 15% off monthly plans.
- Small teams that need a shared texting inbox, where several people answer replies with internal notes and saved replies.
SimpleTexting is the wrong tool if your customers are outside the US and Canada, or if your audience prefers WhatsApp; a platform such as Wati fits that better. It is also not a phone system: if you mainly need staff to call and text customers one to one from a business number, a tool like Quo is closer to the job. And if SMS is a small add-on to an email programme, an all-in-one platform may be simpler than a separate texting tool.
Key features
- Campaigns. Send mass texts now, schedule them, set recurring texts or build drip campaigns. Add images and GIFs as MMS, shorten and track links, and personalise with custom fields.
- Inbox. Two-way messaging for teams, with team members, internal notes, saved replies, conversation filters, push notifications and support for several numbers.
- Keywords. Unlimited text-to-join keywords. A customer texts a word to your number and is added to a list, receives a confirmation and the compliance message, and can be asked to confirm (double opt-in) or verify their age.
- Web forms and pop-ups. Collect opt-ins on your website, plus text-to-win and text-to-vote for contests and polls.
- Automations. Autoresponders, away messages and Data Collection, which asks subscribers questions by text and stores the answers in custom fields.
- Audience tools. Unlimited contacts, custom fields, segments and self-cleaning lists that remove dead numbers.
- AI Assist. Describe the message you want and get five drafts to refresh and edit. SimpleTexting has also described a rephrase tool for the Inbox with tones such as “Short and sweet”, “Expand” and “Friendly”.
- Integrations and API. Zapier (the main bridge, claimed to connect 1,000+ apps), Mailchimp, HubSpot, Salesforce, Shopify, Pipedrive, Zoho, Wix, Square, Slack, Google Sheets, Constant Contact and Make, plus an API and webhooks.
Pricing
There is one plan with all features, priced by the number of credits per month. Annual billing takes 20% off the credit price, but not off the number fee. Prices are in US dollars at the time of writing.
| Credits per month | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) | Extra credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | $29 | $23.20 | 5.5¢ each |
| 1,000 | $49 | $39.20 | 5¢ each |
| 2,000 | $79 | $63.20 | 4¢ each |
| 3,000 | $109 | $87.20 | 4¢ each |
| 7,500 | $229 | $183.20 | 3.5¢ each |
| 15,000 | $399 | $319.20 | 3¢ each |
| 25,000 | $549 | $439.20 | 2.5¢ each |
| 50,000 | $899 | $719.20 | 2¢ each |
| Over 50,000 | Custom | Custom | Custom |
The headline price is not the whole bill. On top of credits you pay:
- A number. A local (10DLC) number costs $10 a month plus a $4 one-time carrier registration. A toll-free number has no added fee but activation can take up to a week. Extra numbers are $10 a month each, and a dedicated short code starts at $1,000 a month with 6-8 weeks to set up.
- Carrier fees, passed through without markup: about $0.0025 per message in the US and $0.0068 in Canada on average.
- Vetting of $40 one-time if you are a high-volume 10DLC sender.
- Extra users at $20 a month each beyond the three included.
The pricing page’s default example, 500 credits with a local number, comes to $39 a month on monthly billing. Remember that long messages cost 2 credits and MMS costs 3, so 500 credits can mean far fewer than 500 picture messages.
On monthly plans, unused credits roll over to the end of the following month, and plan credits are used first. Rollover does not apply to annual plans and is lost if you downgrade. There is a 30-day money-back guarantee and a free 14-day trial with no card.
How to use SimpleTexting: step-by-step
1. Start the free trial
- Sign up for the 14-day trial at simpletexting.com. No credit card is needed.
- Send a test message to your own phone first to see how messages arrive. Your account number is shown in the top right of the main dashboard.
2. Choose and register a number
- Decide between a local (10DLC) number and a toll-free number. Local numbers cost $10 a month and are usually registered the same day; toll-free has no extra fee but verification can take up to a week.
- Complete the registration form with your business details and how you collect consent. SimpleTexting registers local numbers with The Campaign Registry. Do this early, because unregistered numbers may have messages filtered or blocked.
- Only text people who have opted in. Under US rules (TCPA), consent is your responsibility, not SimpleTexting’s.
3. Build your list with a keyword
- In the left-hand panel, click Keywords, then Add keyword.
- Enter a keyword of 3 to 20 letters and numbers (not all numbers, no special characters) and click Save. Short words such as your brand name work best.
- Assign it to a contact list, or create a new list for sign-ups.
- Write the auto-confirmation message, the first text new subscribers receive. Choose SMS (up to 160 characters, 1 credit) or MMS (up to 1,600 characters, 3 credits).
- In the Configuration tab, choose the compliance option: send the free compliance message on sign-up, require a “Y” reply (double opt-in), or add age verification.
- Click Save Keyword, then text the keyword to your number to test it.
- Add your existing opted-in contacts by importing a spreadsheet, and add a web form or pop-up to your website for online sign-ups.
4. Send your first campaign
- Open Campaigns and create a new campaign. Give it a name; only your team sees it.
- Write the message, or use AI Assist: describe the offer in a sentence and pick one of the five drafts, then edit it in your own voice.
- Keep it under 160 characters if you can, so it costs 1 credit. Add an image only when it earns the extra 2 credits.
- Choose the recipient list or segment.
- Choose to send now, schedule it or make it recurring, then check the message once more and send.
5. Answer replies and automate
- Replies arrive in the Inbox. Invite teammates (three users are included) and use internal notes and saved replies for common questions.
- Set an away message for out-of-hours texts and autoresponders for common keywords.
- Use Data Collection to ask new subscribers a question, such as their birthday or preferred store, and save the answer to a custom field for later segments.
- Connect Zapier, Shopify, HubSpot or Mailchimp so new customers or leads flow into your lists automatically.
Tips to get better results
- Register your number before you build anything else. Registration delays are the most common reason a first campaign does not go out.
- Write to 160 characters. One extra character can double the cost of every message in a campaign.
- Send less, but make it worth reading. A clear offer or useful reminder once or twice a month beats daily texts that drive opt-outs.
- Use segments. Custom fields from Data Collection let you send relevant texts instead of blasting the whole list.
- Treat AI Assist drafts as a starting point. Check every offer, price and date it writes before sending.
- Promote your keyword everywhere customers already see you: receipts, counters, email footers and social posts.
- Check usage before switching to annual. Annual saves 20% on credits but loses rollover, so it suits steady volume, not seasonal spikes.
Limitations and common problems
- US and Canada only. There is no international texting. Use a WhatsApp platform for other markets.
- Hidden-in-plain-sight costs. Number fees, registration, carrier pass-through fees, vetting and multi-credit messages make the real bill higher than the headline credit price. Model a typical month before you choose a tier.
- Compliance is on you. Opt-in consent, 10DLC or toll-free verification and message content rules are the customer’s job. Messages from unregistered numbers may be filtered.
- Limited AI. AI Assist writes and rewrites messages. It does not answer customer replies on its own, so someone still has to work the Inbox.
- Light security documentation. The privacy policy describes industry-standard safeguards including TLS 1.2 in transit, and the data processing addendum says SimpleTexting does not sell customer data. We found no published SOC 2 report, data storage location or statement on whether AI Assist prompts are used for model training.
- Slow product news. The public product-updates feed has not been updated since 2023, so check the app for current features rather than relying on the blog.
Alternatives
- Wati - WhatsApp Business API platform with a shared inbox, broadcasts and chatbots; the better choice for audiences outside North America.
- Manychat - chat marketing automation across Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and TikTok, plus SMS and email channels.
- ActiveCampaign - email marketing and automation that can also send SMS from automations, if texting is a side channel to email.
- Quo - business phone system with shared numbers and texting, for one-to-one calls and texts rather than mass campaigns.

Verdict
Sign up for SimpleTexting if you are a US or Canadian business that wants to send text campaigns, grow an opt-in list with keywords and forms, and answer replies as a team, all on one plan without feature tiers. Use the 14-day trial to register a number, set up a keyword and send a test campaign, then pick the smallest credit tier that covers a normal month, remembering that long messages and MMS cost more credits. Skip it if your customers are outside North America, if WhatsApp is where they talk to you, or if you want an AI agent to handle replies, because SimpleTexting’s AI only helps you write.

Is there a SimpleTexting free trial?
Yes. SimpleTexting offers a free 14-day trial with no credit card required, and AI Assist is included in it. SimpleTexting's homepage says the trial lets you text your own number to see how it works. The vendor does not state the trial credit allowance on the pages we checked.
What is a credit in SimpleTexting?
A credit is the unit you pay for. A standard SMS of up to 160 characters costs 1 credit, a longer message of up to 306 characters costs 2, and an MMS of up to 1,600 characters with an image costs 3. Incoming SMS is free and incoming MMS costs 1 credit.
Does SimpleTexting work outside the US?
Only in Canada. SimpleTexting supports recipients in the US and Canada. Carrier pass-through fees average about $0.0025 per message in the US and $0.0068 in Canada, according to the pricing page. For other countries, look at a WhatsApp or international messaging platform.
What is 10DLC registration and do I need it?
10DLC is the US carrier registration system for business texting from standard local numbers. SimpleTexting registers your number with The Campaign Registry for a $4 one-time fee, usually within a day. High-volume senders pay a $40 one-time vetting fee. Unregistered traffic may be filtered or blocked.
Does SimpleTexting have AI?
Yes, AI Assist. In the campaign composer you describe the message you want and it returns five drafts you can refresh and edit. SimpleTexting said at launch in April 2023 that it is built on ChatGPT. It writes messages; it does not reply to customers on its own.
