What is AfterSell?
AfterSell is an upsell app for Shopify stores. It adds product offers at three points of the buying journey: in a custom cart drawer before checkout, on the checkout page, and after payment, on the post-purchase page and thank-you page. The best-known feature is the one-click post-purchase upsell: after a customer pays, they see an offer and can add the item to their order with one click, without typing their card details again.
AfterSell is owned by Rokt, an ecommerce advertising company, which announced the acquisition in January 2024. Rokt’s privacy policy says the app is operated by Beam Commerce Inc., a Rokt subsidiary that also runs Upcart, a Shopify cart drawer app. The vendor now styles the name “Aftersell” on its own site.
The problem it solves is average order value. Getting a new customer to your store is expensive; selling one more item to someone who has just bought is cheap. A post-purchase offer cannot cost you the original sale, because the customer has already paid, so it is one of the lowest-risk places to add revenue.
Who it is for
- Shopify stores with complementary products, such as refills, accessories, add-ons or bundles, that can be offered right after a purchase.
- Consumable brands (supplements, beauty, food and drink) where “add a second unit at a discount” is a natural offer.
- Stores that want a better cart drawer with a rewards bar, free gift thresholds and upsell widgets.
- Shopify Plus merchants who also want upsells on the checkout page itself.
- Higher-volume stores that are open to earning extra money per order from partner offers through Rokt Thanks.
It is not a fit if you sell on WooCommerce, BigCommerce or another platform, because AfterSell is built for Shopify. Stores with one product and nothing to cross-sell will also get little from it, and brands that do not want any third-party ads near their checkout should skip Rokt Thanks.
Key features
- Post-Purchase Upselling. One-click offers after payment, including multi-product offers and downsells shown when a customer declines the first offer. Offers add to the order rather than replacing items.
- Smart Funnels. AfterSell says Smart Funnels test 6,000+ offer combinations and use AI to choose which offer each shopper sees. You can set a maximum discount, default products and whether to skip products already in the order.
- Triggers and targeting. Choose who sees a funnel by product, cart value, customer tags, UTM and more, with exclusions for products, collections, discount codes or regions.
- Thank-you page offers. Widgets such as product recommendations, FAQs, text and image blocks on Shopify’s Thank you and Order status pages.
- Checkout upsells. Offers on the checkout page, available on Shopify Plus only.
- Aftersell Cart. A cart drawer with 18+ drag-and-drop blocks, rewards bars, free gifts, conditional upsells and product page upsells. You can rebuild a cart from a screenshot with an AI prompt and export carts between stores.
- Advanced Testing and Analytics. A/B and multivariate tests across funnel layouts, with revenue, transactions and average order value reporting.
- Rokt Thanks. Third-party partner offers on your order confirmation page that pay you per order.
Pricing
AfterSell prices by monthly order volume. Each paid plan starts at the price below and rises as your orders grow, up to a monthly cap. Figures are from the vendor’s pricing page at the time of writing, in US dollars.
| Plan | Starting price | Orders at starting price | Monthly price cap | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Post-Purchase | $34.99/month | 200 orders/month | $999.99 | One-click post-purchase and thank-you page offers, Smart Funnels, checkout upsells (Shopify Plus), targeting, multivariate testing, analytics |
| Pre-Purchase | $59.99/month | 200 orders/month | $599.99 | Cart customisation with 18+ blocks, AI cart building, rewards bars, free gifts, conditional upsells, A/B testing, product page upsells |
| Complete | $79.99/month | 500 orders/month | $1,359.99 | Pre-Purchase and Post-Purchase plus a product recommendation engine; AfterSell says it is 15% cheaper than buying both |
| Rokt Thanks | Free | Unlimited | n/a | Partner offers on the confirmation page; vendor says $0.30 to $0.80 earned per order |
| Aftersell Max | Custom | High-volume stores | Not published | Everything in Complete, dedicated account manager, implementation services, MCP access for AI tools |
Points to note:
- The three paid plans include a 30-day free trial.
- The price steps between the starting price and the cap are not published, so check what your order volume will cost before the trial ends.
- No annual discount is listed.
- Under the Earn & Save offer, stores with over 1,000 monthly orders in the US, Canada, Australia or the UK can have Rokt Thanks earnings (up to $0.80 per order) credited against the AfterSell subscription.
How to use AfterSell: step-by-step
These steps follow AfterSell’s own help docs. Installation normally runs through the Shopify App Store link on the AfterSell website.
- Install the app. Open the Shopify App Store link from aftersell.com and add the app to your store. When we checked on 20 October 2026, that listing said the app was “not currently available on the Shopify App Store” and pointed merchants to Rokt for support, so contact Rokt if you cannot install it.
- Pick a plan. Choose Post-Purchase, Pre-Purchase or Complete to start the 30-day trial, or Rokt Thanks on its own.
- Place a test order early. AfterSell’s preview shows default colours until a test order has gone through, and a test order is the only reliable way to see exactly what customers will see.
Workflow 1: build your first post-purchase funnel
- Open Post-purchase Funnels. On your first visit you can start from a template (Classic upsell, Bestseller bundle or Thank-you boost) and click Use this template. Later funnels can be built with Add funnel and Create manually.
- Set triggers: the products, cart value or customer attributes that decide who sees the funnel. Add exclusions if needed.
- Choose the offer. A single-product offer can be a specific product, an automatic (Shopify AI) recommendation, or the most or least expensive item from the original order. A multi-product offer can show up to 12 products or a collection.
- Customise the page with Text, Timer and Upsell Product widgets. Set the discount, and optionally a badge such as “Bestseller”.
- Optionally add an Order Tag (up to 40 characters) so upsell orders are easy to find in Shopify; AfterSell also adds its own “AfterSell Upsell” tag.
- Switch the funnel’s Status toggle on.
- Add a catch-all funnel using the Show for All Customers trigger, set to the lowest priority, so every customer sees some offer.
Workflow 2: add offers to the thank-you page
- Click Edit Extensions Page and add widgets such as Product Recommendations, FAQs, and text or image blocks. You can put a discount code for the next order in a text or image widget.
- In Shopify’s editor, add the AfterSell app blocks to both the Thank you page and the Order status page. If you skip either one, the widgets will not show.
- Click Enable on any inactive widget and save.
Workflow 3: turn on Smart Funnels
- In the Smart Funnel panel, click Enable.
- Set Traffic Allocation (how many eligible shoppers see Smart Funnel offers), a Max Discount, and Default Products.
- Turn on Skip Products in Original Order so customers are not offered what they just bought.
- Decide whether to require a confirmation click to accept. Smart Funnel runs at the highest priority, so its offers appear before your manual funnels when a shopper qualifies.
Tips to get better results
- Always discount post-purchase offers. AfterSell’s best-practice guide says discounted offers convert noticeably better. Its suggested starting ranges include 10-20% for fashion and beauty, 15-25% for supplements and food, and 5-15% for electronics.
- Offer complementary products, not the item just bought, unless it is a consumable where a second unit makes sense.
- Give the decline path a cheaper downsell: a smaller size, lower price or different category, with a bigger discount.
- Build dedicated funnels for your 3-6 hero products and keep a catch-all funnel at the lowest priority.
- Use percentage discounts on expensive items and fixed amounts on cheap ones, and round percentages to the nearest 5%.
- Judge tests by revenue per visit, and run them for two to four weeks or until each layout has 100-200 impressions before deciding.
- Check the displayed discount with a test order, because compare-at prices can make savings look bigger than you intended.
Limitations and common problems
- Shopify only. There is no version for other ecommerce platforms.
- Checkout upsells need Shopify Plus, as does editing post-purchase branding inside the app. On other plans you style that page in Shopify’s checkout editor.
- App Store availability. On 20 October 2026 the Shopify App Store listing for AfterSell said it was not currently available. Confirm with Rokt how to install before planning a launch.
- Widgets missing on the thank-you page almost always mean the app block was added to only one of the Thank you and Order status pages.
- Unpublished price steps. You know the starting price and the cap, but not the price at, say, 2,000 orders a month. Ask before committing.
- A/B tests cover post-purchase only. Layout tests do not apply to thank-you page offers.
- Rokt Thanks trade-offs. It shows other companies’ offers to your customers, and Rokt’s privacy policy says it may “sell” or “share” personal data with advertisers under the CCPA definitions. Weigh the per-order income against your brand and privacy stance.
- Vendor claims. Figures such as 50,000+ brands and case-study gains of up to 30% in average order value come from AfterSell and are not independently verified.
Alternatives
- ReConvert - a Shopify post-purchase and thank-you page upsell app.
- Zipify OneClickUpsell (OCU) - pre- and post-purchase upsell funnels for Shopify.
- Upcart - Rokt’s own cart drawer app, if you only need cart upsells.
- Shopify’s free Search & Discovery app - basic product recommendations without a separate upsell tool.

Verdict
Sign up for AfterSell if you run a Shopify store with products that pair naturally and you want to raise average order value without risking the first sale. The Post-Purchase plan at $34.99 a month is the cheapest way to test whether one-click offers work for your customers, and the 30-day trial gives you time to measure it.
Choose Complete if you also want a better cart drawer, and only add Rokt Thanks if third-party offers suit your brand. Skip AfterSell if you are not on Shopify, have a single product, or cannot get the app installed until Rokt confirms its App Store status.
