Cursor no longer sells its own Pro, Pro+ or Ultra plans to new customers. Since October 12, 2026, anyone signing up buys The X Subscription from SpaceX’s AI unit: one plan that covers Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor and X Premium benefits, priced from $8 to $200 a month. Existing subscribers keep their plans. The bigger change: Claude, GPT and Gemini are no longer in any included allowance and bill at API list price from the first request. SpaceX completed its acquisition of Cursor on August 14, 2026 (Cursor’s post).

Old Cursor plans vs The X Subscription

Prices at the time of writing (re-checked on cursor.com/pricing on October 25, no change), USD, excluding tax. The “comparable” column is the vendor’s own mapping.

Legacy Cursor planPriceComparable X Subscription planMonthlyAnnual
HobbyFreeFree$0$0
--Plus$8$80
Pro$20/monthPremium$30$300
Pro+$60/monthSuper$100$1,000
Ultra$200/monthUltra$200$2,000
Teams Standard$40/userTeams, Premium seat$30/seat-
Teams Premium$120/userTeams, Super seat$100/seat-

Included usage is published only as multiples: Premium gets 4x the Plus allowance, Super 15x and Ultra 50x. There are no dollar or token figures. xAI claims each plan includes “at least twice as much coding usage with our models as the comparable Cursor plan”, which is a vendor claim we cannot check.

Plus is cheap but narrow: Agent with Cursor models only, at fixed settings, with no Auto, Cloud Agents, Bugbot, third-party models or own API keys. Premium is the first tier with Cloud Agents, Bugbot and third-party models.

One weekly pool shared with Grok

Legacy Cursor plans have two monthly pools, one for Cursor’s own models and one for third-party models. The X Subscription replaces both with a single weekly pool that covers only first-party models (Grok 4.7, 4.6 and 4.5, and Composer 2.5). The pool is shared across the Cursor editor, CLI, Cloud Agents, Grok Bot and the Grok apps, so heavy Grok chat use eats into your coding allowance. Unused usage does not roll over. On team plans each seat has its own pool, and seat tiers can be mixed.

Claude, GPT and Gemini now cost extra from the first request

Third-party models are outside the included pool on every X Subscription plan. On Premium and above they draw on prepaid credit (top-ups) at API list price from the first request; Free and Plus cannot use them at all. At the time of writing Cursor lists Claude Opus 5.5 at $4 / $20 per million input / output tokens and Claude Sonnet 5.5 at $2 / $10. Prepaid credit expires 365 days after purchase.

So a developer who mostly uses Claude now pays $30 a month plus API costs, where legacy Pro included some third-party usage. Teams also pay a Cursor Token Rate of $0.25 per million tokens on third-party requests, including requests made with their own API keys.

What existing subscribers should do

Nothing, unless the new plans suit you better. xAI’s switching FAQ says switching is optional and your current plan continues unless you change or cancel it. You can still move between legacy plans, such as Pro to Pro+, without switching, unless you pay through the Apple App Store.

If you do switch, your old Cursor plan is cancelled with a prorated refund and a new billing cycle starts that day. The same FAQ says a completed switch “is permanent and cannot be undone by Support”. App Store subscriptions are not cancelled for you, so cancel those in your device settings. If most of your usage goes to Claude or GPT, check the numbers before switching.

OpenAI’s proposed November 12 cut-off

On August 28, 2026 OpenAI said it had told SpaceX it will wind down the contract supplying OpenAI models to Cursor, with a proposed shutoff date of November 12, 2026, and that future models will not come to Cursor. OpenAI’s help article says the official date will be shared once confirmed and Cursor may end access sooner. As of October 25, with the proposed date 18 days away, we found no newer primary source confirming or changing it; every report we found still calls November 12 a proposed date.

OpenAI’s stated workarounds are your own OpenAI API key, which works only in Cursor’s local Chat and Agent (not Tab, Auto, Cloud Agents, Automations, the CLI or the SDK), or the Codex IDE extension running inside Cursor.

Our Cursor review covers which plan to pick and how the editor compares. Our AI coding assistants guide compares Cursor with GitHub Copilot and Claude Code prices, and our Q4 model retirements tracker lists other dated cut-offs. For the models, see ChatGPT vs Claude. Frequently asked questions

Can I still buy Cursor Pro?

Not as a new self-serve customer. Since October 12, 2026, new customers buy The X Subscription (Free, Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100, Ultra $200 a month at the time of writing). Existing Cursor Pro, Pro+ and Ultra subscribers keep their plans and can still move between them.

Do I have to switch my existing Cursor plan to The X Subscription?

No. xAI's help docs say switching is optional and your current plan continues unless you change or cancel it. If you do switch, the old plan is cancelled with a prorated refund, and the docs say a completed switch is permanent and cannot be undone by Support.

Are Claude and GPT models included in The X Subscription?

No. Third-party models such as Claude, GPT and Gemini are not part of the included weekly usage on any plan. On Premium and above they are billed at API list price from prepaid credit, starting with the first request. Plus and Free cannot use them.

When will OpenAI models stop working in Cursor?

OpenAI has proposed November 12, 2026 as the shutoff date and says the official date will be shared once confirmed; Cursor may end access sooner. OpenAI's suggested workarounds are your own OpenAI API key in Cursor's local Chat and Agent, or the Codex IDE extension inside Cursor.

Which X Subscription plan replaces Cursor Pro?

The vendor maps legacy Pro ($20 a month) to Premium ($30 a month), Pro+ ($60) to Super ($100) and Ultra ($200) to Ultra ($200). Premium is the cheapest plan with Cloud Agents, Bugbot and third-party models.
