Claude Personal Finance Beta: Link Your Bank Accounts via Plaid
Claude Personal Finance is a US beta for Pro, Max and Ultra that reads bank and card data through Plaid. What it can do, what it sees, and the privacy terms.

Anthropic has launched Personal Finance in Claude, a beta that lets you link bank, credit card, loan and investment accounts and ask Claude questions about your own money. It was announced on 5 November 2026 and is available on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans in the US only. Access goes through Plaid and is read-only, and Anthropic says chats in the Personal Finance hub are not used for model training. Sources: Anthropic’s announcement and the Claude Apps release notes.
Who gets it and how you connect
The release notes describe Personal Finance as a beta that shows “your balances and spending on one page” and lets you ask Claude about them. It is limited to Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US, and the rollout began the week of the announcement, so not every eligible account will see it on day one. You open it from Personal Finance in Claude’s sidebar. Neither source says whether it works in the mobile apps as well as on the web, so check your own account rather than assume. If you are weighing a plan for this, our Claude pricing guide compares Pro, Max and Ultra.
Accounts are linked through Plaid, the service many finance apps use to connect to banks. You sign in to your bank on Plaid’s screen, accept Plaid’s terms and approve Claude’s read-only access. Claude never asks for or sees your bank password.
What Claude sees and what it can do
For the accounts you choose to connect, and only those, Claude can see:
- the bank name, account name, account type and last four digits
- balances and credit limits
- up to two years of transactions
With that data, Anthropic says Claude can total your spending across accounts by category, compare it with earlier months, spot unusual or duplicate charges, fees and rising bills, and project upcoming payments and how much is left before payday. It can also explain financial terms, calculate costs such as the interest you are paying, and build adjustable charts, calendars or dashboards.
The limits matter as much as the features. Access is read-only: Personal Finance “can’t move, manage, or invest your money”, and Anthropic says it is not designed to give investment advice. The announcement also says there are no ads or sponsored recommendations, and that Anthropic does not offer its own credit cards, loans or savings accounts through the feature.
Privacy and training terms
Anthropic says conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models. Chats outside the hub follow your existing privacy settings. That distinction is worth taking seriously: on the consumer plans, whether ordinary chats are used for training depends on the Model Improvement setting, which our Claude review explains. If you have opted in, keep financial questions inside the hub rather than pasting statements into a normal chat.
You can unlink an account at any time, and Claude then loses access to its data. Anthropic points to its Privacy Center and Help Center for the full details.
Practical caveats before you connect
This is a beta and a new kind of job for a general-purpose assistant, so a few habits are sensible:
- Check the numbers. Anthropic itself says Claude can make mistakes and suggests asking which transactions support a figure, then checking important totals with your bank. Treat category totals as a first draft.
- Connect the minimum. Two years of transactions is a detailed picture of your life. Link the accounts you actually want analysed, not everything you hold.
- Keep work and personal separate. It is a consumer feature on individual plans. Do not connect business or client accounts on the strength of it, and check your employer’s policy before using it on a work device.
- It is not an adviser. For tax, debt or investment decisions, use Claude to organise the facts and a licensed professional to decide. Anthropic says it wants future versions to work alongside licensed professionals and regulated firms, and it is seeking input from banks and wealth managers.
- Outside the US, wait. There is no announced date for other countries.
If you are choosing between assistants, our ChatGPT vs Claude comparison covers the everyday differences; we will add Personal Finance to it if the feature leaves beta. More launches are in our news section.
Frequently asked questions
Who can use Personal Finance in Claude?
At launch it is a beta for Claude Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US only. Anthropic says the rollout started the week of 5 November 2026, so it may not appear in every eligible account straight away. Free, Team and Enterprise plans are not mentioned.
Is it safe to connect my bank account to Claude?
You connect through Plaid, signing in to your bank on Plaid's screen, so Claude never asks for or sees your bank password. Access is read-only: Claude cannot move, manage or invest money. Claude does see balances, credit limits and up to two years of transactions for the accounts you pick, so connect only the accounts you need.
Does Anthropic train Claude on my financial data?
Anthropic says conversations inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models. Chats outside the hub follow your normal privacy settings, so avoid pasting financial details into ordinary chats if you have opted in to model training.
Can Claude give me investment advice?
No. Anthropic says Personal Finance is not designed to give investment advice. It is built for understanding your own spending, bills and balances, and Anthropic advises checking important numbers with your bank.
How do I disconnect an account?
Anthropic says you can unlink a connected account at any time, after which Claude can no longer see its data. The feature lives under Personal Finance in Claude's sidebar.
