What is SurveySparrow?
SurveySparrow is online survey and customer feedback software. You build a survey, send it by link, email, SMS or an embed, and read the results in dashboards and reports. Its best-known feature is the conversational survey: questions appear one at a time in a chat-like layout instead of a long page of fields.
It is made by SurveySparrow Inc., founded in 2017 and headquartered in Palo Alto, California. Beyond basic surveys it covers NPS, offline and kiosk surveys, 360 assessments, quizzes, automated workflows and executive dashboards. The company sells separate product lines for CX (NPS, CSAT and CES programmes), Brand (reviews and social), Research, Documents and 360 Assessment. This guide focuses on the core Surveys product, which is what most people sign up for.
The newest piece is Echo, an AI agent launched on 17 September 2026. When a customer gives a vague answer or a low score, Echo asks follow-up questions in the same conversation and can act on the reply, for example by creating a support ticket.
The problem SurveySparrow solves is low-quality feedback. Long forms get abandoned, and short ones tell you a score without the reason. SurveySparrow tries to raise completion with a friendlier format, then get the reason with follow-ups and route it to the right person.
Who it is for
- Customer experience teams running relational or transactional NPS, CSAT or CES surveys and tracking the trend over time.
- Marketers and product teams who want feedback forms that feel less like paperwork and work inside email, websites and apps.
- Retail, hospitality and healthcare businesses collecting feedback on site with the Offline Survey app in kiosk mode.
- HR and L&D teams running 360 assessments or internal quizzes.
- Agencies that need white-labelled surveys and subaccounts for clients.
Who should not use it: someone who sends one survey a year or needs a simple sign-up form. The Free plan’s response cap is low, paid plans are mostly single-user below Business, and a general form builder will cost less. If you need a form inside a WordPress site, a plugin such as Gravity Forms (listed in our productivity tools directory) is a more natural fit.
Key features
- Conversational Forms. Chat-style surveys with one question per screen. SurveySparrow claims they get 40% higher response rates; treat that as a vendor claim. Classic page-style surveys are available too, with 20+ question types.
- NPS surveys. Relational NPS (periodic, about the overall relationship) and transactional NPS (after a purchase or support contact), with Recurring Surveys to send them on a schedule.
- Offline Survey app. Collects responses without an internet connection and syncs later. Kiosk mode locks a tablet to the survey for use at a counter or event.
- Logic, translation and branding. Skip and display logic from Basic; survey translation from Starter; custom branding and advanced question types from Business; CSS customisation and auto-translation into 130+ languages on Enterprise.
- Distribution. Share by URL, email, email embed, website embed, QR code, SMS, social (Facebook and Twitter) or a participant portal, all from the survey’s Share tab.
- Custom Workflows and integrations. Workflows and webhooks start at Business. Integrations grow by plan: Slack from Basic, HubSpot from Starter, Zendesk from Business, Power BI on Enterprise. An API is available on paid plans, with daily call limits.
- Dashboards and reports. An Executive Dashboard, a Compare cross-tabulation view and scheduled reports. Custom dashboard widgets are Enterprise only.
- Echo (AI agent). Asks follow-up questions on vague or low-score feedback and can book appointments, create tickets or update a CRM during the conversation. It works across web widgets, WhatsApp, SMS, email and voice, and you train it with your own knowledge base and guidelines. There are industry presets such as Maya for hospitality, Robin for B2B/SaaS, Ava for e-commerce, Tara for healthcare and Riya for retail. Usage is counted as “Echo Agents” per plan. The vendor says 97% of Echo conversations are completed; that is its own figure.
- CogniVue text analytics. AI analysis of open-ended answers for sentiment, topics and key drivers. The pricing page lists Key Driver Analysis on Enterprise only; it does not make clear which other CogniVue features each plan gets.
Pricing
Prices below are for the Surveys product in US dollars, from SurveySparrow’s pricing page at the time of writing. The page offers quarterly and yearly billing; we did not see a monthly option. Yearly billing is advertised as saving “upto 40%”. The yearly prices below were read from the page’s plan data, because the price cards load by script. Quarterly prices were not shown clearly, so check the page before you buy.
| Plan | Price (per month, billed yearly) | Users | Responses (quarterly / yearly billing) | Active surveys | Contacts | Key additions |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 1 | 75 per quarter | 3 | 1,000 | 10 questions per survey, 2 Echo Agents, no API |
| Basic | $19 | 1 | 600 / 2,500 | 100 | 10,000 | Email distribution, partial responses, skip and display logic, Slack, 25 Echo Agents, 500 API calls/day |
| Starter | $49 | 1 | 3,600 / 15,000 | 1,000 | 20,000 | Email embeds, survey translation, redirects, HubSpot, 1,000 API calls/day |
| Business | $99 | 3 | 9,000 / 36,000 | 1,000 | 200,000 | Custom branding, advanced question types, workflows and webhooks, Zendesk, chat support, 40 Document Generator credits |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom | Unlimited | Custom | CSS customisation, auto-translation (130+ languages), Key Driver Analysis, HIPAA, Power BI, dedicated CSM |
Rules that matter more than the headline price:
- Extra users cost $49 per user per month. A team of five on Business pays for two extra seats on top of the plan.
- Responses are the real limit. Extra responses and API calls are priced by sales. Estimate your yearly response volume before picking a plan.
- Free plan limits conflict. The table says 75 responses per quarter, the FAQ says up to 50 responses per month after the trial. Check the figure in your own account.
- The trial runs 14 days with Business features, a 50-response limit and no credit card. The account drops to Free afterwards.
- Other products are priced separately. Research Starter (the Market Research module) was listed at $199 per month billed yearly or $299 billed quarterly; the FAQ says Business customers can add Market Research from $125 per month. CX Suite, Brand, Documents and 360 Assessment are priced on request.
- Startups can get $2,000 of credit for $500 through SurveySparrow’s startup programme.
SurveySparrow does not explain on the pricing page what the Document Generator credits produce.
How to use SurveySparrow: step-by-step
1. Start a trial and plan your survey
- Sign up on surveysparrow.com. The 14-day trial needs no card and gives Business features, so you can test workflows and branding before deciding on a plan.
- Before building, write down three things: the one decision the survey should inform, who will receive it, and how you will send it. A survey without a decision behind it produces data nobody reads.
2. Build the survey
- After you log in, you land on the Home page. Click New survey.
- Start from a blank survey or click Browse Classic Templates and pick one. Templates fill in the questions, which you can edit or delete.
- Enter the Survey Title, change the Survey Type if needed (for example, a conversational survey instead of a classic one), choose a folder and click Create Survey.
- The Builder opens with a Welcome page. Add questions from the 20+ question types. Hover over a question to copy or delete it, and drag questions to reorder them.
- Click View on a question to see how respondents will see it.
- Add skip logic and display logic so people only see questions that apply to them (Basic plan and above).
- Adjust the design, then check the survey settings. Changes save automatically.
- Click Preview to check the survey on desktop and mobile layouts.
3. Share it and collect responses
- Open the survey’s Share tab and pick a channel.
- For a link, click Create a URL and paste it wherever your audience is.
- For email, create an Email Share. You can set reminders and a recurring mode, and the overview shows sent, opened, click-through rate and reminders sent.
- For printed material or a counter, choose QR Code, fill in the required fields and download the code.
- Use Embed to put the survey on a web page, or Email Embed to place the survey inside an email template (Starter and above).
- The All Shares list shows every share with its creation date, response count and status, so you can see which channel works.
4. Set up an NPS or feedback loop
For an ongoing programme, use an NPS survey with Recurring Surveys so customers get it on a schedule rather than when someone remembers. On Business, add a Custom Workflow that sends low scores to your support tool or Slack channel, so a detractor gets a reply the same week. If you use Echo, upload your knowledge base and guidelines first, then start with one industry preset and read the first conversations yourself before letting it trigger actions such as ticket creation.
Tips to get better results
- Keep surveys short. On the Free plan you have 10 questions per survey; treat that as a good limit everywhere.
- Ask one open question after the score. “What is the main reason for your score?” gives you more than five rating grids.
- Use logic. Skip questions that do not apply. Irrelevant questions are the main reason people abandon a survey.
- Pick the channel by context. Email for customers after a purchase, an embed for website visitors, QR code and kiosk mode for in-person feedback.
- Watch your response cap. Check usage monthly so a busy period does not cut off collection halfway through a quarter.
- Test Echo on a small audience. Read its follow-up conversations before you connect it to your CRM or ticketing system.
- Close the loop. Reply to detractors and tell customers what changed. Response rates on the next survey depend on it.
Limitations and common problems
- Tight response limits. Free and Basic caps are easy to hit. Workaround: start on the yearly plan if you know your volume, or survey a sample rather than every customer.
- Single-user lower plans. Basic and Starter include one user, and each extra user costs $49 per month. For a team, compare the cost of Business plus seats with alternatives.
- Key features start at Business. Removing SurveySparrow branding, workflows and webhooks need Business. HIPAA, CSS customisation and Key Driver Analysis need Enterprise.
- Unclear pricing details. The pricing page loads prices by script, does not show quarterly prices clearly and contradicts itself on Free plan responses. Confirm the numbers on the live page or with sales.
- AI documentation is thin. Plan availability for CogniVue features and what Document Generator credits do are not explained on the pricing page.
- Data questions. The security page lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO/IEC 27001:2022, GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA (third-party attestation), Cyber Essentials and CSA STAR Level 1, with AWS hosting and AES-256 encryption at rest. It does not publish data residency options or whether customer data is used to train AI models. Ask sales before collecting sensitive data.
Alternatives
- Typeform - the best-known one-question-at-a-time form builder; strong for marketing forms and lead capture.
- SurveyMonkey - the general-purpose survey standard with a large template library and audience panels.
- Google Forms - free and simple for internal or occasional surveys, with no NPS programme tools.
- Qualtrics - enterprise experience management for large research and CX teams with bigger budgets.
- Tidio - if what you really want is to talk to website visitors rather than survey them, a chat and AI support tool such as Tidio may fit better.

Verdict
Sign up for SurveySparrow if you run feedback as an ongoing programme: recurring NPS, CSAT after support contacts, kiosk feedback in a store, or customer research across several channels. The conversational format, the range of share options and the workflows on Business cover that job well, and Echo adds a useful follow-up step if you are willing to train and supervise it.
Skip it if you need a handful of forms a year, a single shared login for a whole team on a small budget, or clear published answers on data residency and AI training. Use the 14-day trial on a real survey with a real audience, and check how quickly you would reach the response cap before you choose a plan.

Yes, there is a Free plan for one user with 3 active surveys and up to 10 questions per survey. The pricing table lists 75 responses per quarter, while the pricing FAQ mentions up to 50 responses per month after the trial, so check the limit in your account. At the time of writing, the Surveys product costs $19 per month for Basic, $49 for Starter and $99 for Business, billed yearly. Enterprise is priced on request. Extra users cost $49 per user per month. Quarterly billing is also offered, but its prices were not shown clearly on the pricing page when we checked.
What is a conversational survey?
A conversational survey shows one question at a time in a chat-like layout instead of a long form. SurveySparrow calls these Conversational Forms and claims they get 40% higher response rates; that figure is the vendor's own claim, not an independent benchmark.
What is SurveySparrow Echo?
Echo is an AI agent launched on 17 September 2026. It asks follow-up questions when feedback is vague or a score is low, and can trigger actions such as booking an appointment, creating a ticket or updating a CRM. It works on web widgets, WhatsApp, SMS, email and voice, and is trained on the knowledge base and guidelines you upload.
Is SurveySparrow HIPAA compliant?
SurveySparrow lists HIPAA compliance with a third-party attestation on its security page, but on the pricing page HIPAA is available only on the Enterprise plan. Teams handling health data should confirm the terms with sales before collecting any.
Does SurveySparrow have a free trial?
Yes. The 14-day trial gives you Business plan features, limited to 50 responses, with no credit card required. When it ends, the account moves to the Free plan.
